In short
We collect your name, phone, email and address so we can send you hair. We collect a photo of your face only if you choose to use the Virtual Try-On — Hair Lyf does not store it, but it is uploaded to our processing partner LightX to generate your preview. We never sell your data. You can ask us to delete everything we hold about you by emailing support@hairlyf.com.
Who we are
Hair Lyf is operated by GGE Hair Lyf Pvt. Ltd., 840 Janakpuri, Bareilly — 243122, Uttar Pradesh, India. In this policy, "we", "us" and "Hair Lyf" mean that company. "You" means anyone visiting hairlyf.com, buying from us, or messaging us.
We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described here, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
What we collect, and why

We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you're under 18, please use the site with a parent or guardian.
Your Virtual Try-On photo
This is the most sensitive data on our site, so we'll be exact about it.
What happens when you upload a photo:
Your image passes through our server without being saved, and is uploaded to LightX — a third-party image-processing service — which recolours the hair in the picture and sends the preview back to your browser.
Hair Lyf does not store your photo. It is not written to our servers or database, not attached to your customer record, not used for marketing, and not used to train anything.
LightX does receive and hold a copy in order to process it, and retains it under their own terms — which is something we want you to know before you upload, rather than after.
- Uploading a photo is entirely optional. You can buy from us without ever using the Try-On.
- The preview is generated for you, in that moment, and shown only in your browser.
- If you'd rather not share a photo at all, send us a message on WhatsApp and we'll recommend a shade from a description instead.
- If you want your image removed from LightX, email us and we'll raise the request with them on your behalf.
Who we share your data with
We share only what's necessary, only with parties who need it to do a job for you. We name them, because a policy that says "third parties" and stops there is telling you nothing.
- Razorpay — to take your payment securely.
- LightX — to process a Try-On photo, if you upload one.
- Blue Dart Express — to deliver your order. They receive your name, address and phone number.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — if you choose to message us there.
- Our email provider — to send newsletters, if you have subscribed. We only email people who have opted in.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — we run the Meta Pixel to measure our ads and show you relevant products. This only runs if you consent — see the Cookies section below.
We never sell your personal data. We don't rent it, trade it, or hand it to data brokers.
We may disclose data if the law requires it — a court order, a regulator, a genuine legal obligation.
How long we keep it
- Order records — retained as long as required for tax and accounting law in India, currently 8 years.
- Try-On photos — never retained by Hair Lyf. Retained by LightX under their terms.
- WhatsApp conversations — kept while your consultation is active, and deleted on request.
- Newsletter email — until you unsubscribe.
- Usage data — kept in aggregate, typically 26 months.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act, you can:
- Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Correct anything that's wrong or out of date.
- Delete your data, where we're not legally required to keep it.
- Withdraw consent — for marketing, for WhatsApp messages, for anything you agreed to.
- Complain to us, and if we don't resolve it, to the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise any of these, email support@hairlyf.com. We'll respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first — that's to protect you, not to stall.
Cookies and tracking
Essential cookies
These keep your shopping bag working and remember your preferences. The site can't function without them, so they're always on.
Analytics and advertising cookies
We use the Meta Pixel to understand which of our ads bring people to the site, and to show our products to people who might like them on Instagram and Facebook.
These only run if you agree. When you first visit, we ask. If you choose "Essential only", the pixel stays switched off and nothing about your visit is sent to Meta.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser's site data for hairlyf.com, which will make us ask you again. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings — some parts of the site, like the bag, may then stop working properly.
Security
Payments run through Razorpay over an encrypted connection, and the site is served over HTTPS. We keep access to customer data limited to the people who need it.
No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your data, we'll tell you and the Data Protection Board, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll tell you directly.
